America is not a racist country. It is a country that has some racists in it. But the overwhelming majority of people have enough sense to realize that people are people no matter their race, color or creed.
But guess what. I knew that BEFORE we elected Obama. I have told people for a long time that race would not be an issue for Obama. The only racism we have witnessed in the election was the percentage of black voters that voted for Obama despite their party afiliation. But I am okay with that too. It is a historic moment to put a cap on the struggle for equality.
I just get sick of hearing people like Maya Angelou's quote last night. She said, and I'm paraphrasing, that she no longer has to apologize for the US when she goes to Europe for the country being racist. YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO APOLOGIZE FOR THAT ANYWAY! ON THE CONTRARY, IT WAS ON YOU TO CORRECT THEM!
She specifically referenced Britain and France. Question: How many black leaders have those two countries elected to prime minister? I'll be waiting for your answer. Europe is after the continent so consumed by race that FIFA had to start making PSAs about how racism at soccer games.
That would NEVER happen in the USofA. Get over it people This country wasn't racist before Obama was elected.
